NATIONAL UNIT OF COMPETENCY CODE: HLTAID 012

This unit of competency describes the skills and knowledge required to provide an emergency first aid response to infants, children and adults, until the arrival of medical assistance.

COURSE CONTENTS:

  • DRSABCD Action Plan
  • Managing the unconscious casualty
  • Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR)
  • Use of an Automated External Defibrillator (AED)
  • Trauma and medical emergencies
  • Bites and stings
  • Emergency management of asthma and anaphylaxis

COURSE INCLUSIONS:

  • First Aid Manual

DURATION:

Option 1
8 hours in classroom training and assessment

Option 2
Online learning assessment prior to attending, 3 hours in classroom training and assessment

TIME OF COURSE:

8.30am to 4pm

PREREQUISITES:

Nil

ASSESSMENT METHODS:

  • Multiple choice quiz
  • Progressive practical assessment

STATEMENT OF ATTAINMENT ISSUED:

RECERTIFICATION:

  • Valid 3 years from the completion date.
  • Annual refreshers recommended to maintain current CPR skills.
